MATT ‘Guitar’ Murphy, a guitarist in the Blues Brothers Band, has died aged 88.
The music legend was a world renowned sideman to Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, Memphis Slim and many others.
His nephew, Floyd Murphy Jnr confirmed his death on Facebook on Saturday morning.
He was most famous for appearing in the Blues Brothes movies alongside Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi.
Matt played the husband of cafe owner Aretha Franklin who gave him a hard time about joining the madcap band.
Murphy appeared in the 1980 original and 1998 follow up, Blues Brothers 2000.
He also played with the spin-off band and it’s top 20 hit, Soul Man.
Matt went on to perform with the band until the early 2000s, but made less appearances after suffering a stroke.
Murphy and his brother Floyd became regulars on the blues circuit, and he went on to appear with the greatest names in the genre.
