Mel Columbe American actor, director, and producer Gerard Gibson was born on January 3, 1956. He is best recognized for playing action heroes, especially in the post-apocalyptic action series Mad Max’s first three films as Max Rockatansky and the buddy cop movie series Lethal Weapon’s Martin Riggs. Gibson was born in Peekskill, New York, and when he was 12 years old, he went to Sydney, Australia, with his parents. He performed in a Romeo and Juliet production alongside Judy Davis while studying acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art. He established Icon Entertainment in the 1980s, a production business that independent filmmaker Atom Egoyan has referred to as “an alternative to the studio system.”
Gibson received a Best Actor nomination from the Australian Film Institute for the 1981 World War I drama Gallipoli, which helped establish him as a serious, adaptable performer. Director Peter Weir placed him as one of the main characters.
