Michael Jordan donates $100 million to promote racial equality following George Floyd’s death

In a joint presser released on Friday June 5th 2020, Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand have announced a partnered donation of $100 million to support the activities of organizations dedicated to the promotion of racial equality and social justice.

The statement was released in line with the death of George Floyd in the hands of Minnesota police; an incident that has seen massive protest by black people and well-meaning white folks as well in solidarity with the family of the deceased and also the black community.

“Today, we are announcing that, Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand will be donating $100 million over the next 10 years to organizations dedicated to ensuring racial equity, social justice and greater access to education” part of the statement reads.

The two brands equally condemns chronic systematic racism against the black community and pledges support until the issue is resolved. “Black lives matter […] Until the ingrained racism that allows our country’s institutions to fail is completely eradicated, we will remain committed to protecting and improving the lives of Black people,” the statement added.

Michael Jordan has earlier on released a statement demanding equity and also in support for the general call for a change in the system. “I see and feel everyone’s pain, outrage and frustration. I stand with those who are calling out the ingrained racism and violence toward people of color in our country. We have had enough,” Jordan stated

He further urged the black community to stand together in unity in condemning the age-long discrimination. “I don’t have the answers, but our collective voices show strength and the inability to be divided by others. We must listen to each other, show compassion and empathy and never turn our backs on senseless brutality.”.. He finally stated.
