Michelle Phan Copyright infringement lawsuit
Phan was sued by Ultra Records for copyright infringements in July 2014. According to Ultra Records, Michelle had used their music in her YouTube videos without their permission.
For up to 50 instances of what Ultra Records referred to as copyright infringements, they sought up to $150,000 in damages per infringement which would have been a total of up to $7.5 million.
Michelle’s lawyers stated that she had received permission from Ultra Records before using the music in question. Michelle and her lawyers then filed a countersuit against Ultra Records on September 18, 2014. In August 2015, however, both lawsuit and countersuit were dropped when both parties agreed to settle out of court.
