Cristiano Ronaldo stops match to take selfie with pitch invader during Portugal vs Lithuania Euro 2020 qualifiers last night.
Cristiano Ronaldo has played at the highest level for so many years that to many he is football itself. There have been suggestions that the forward is currently in decline but a superb showing put those claims to rest as Ronaldo notched up yet another hat-trick.
His 9th for his country and 55th in his career to be precise. He helped Portugal inch closer to a Euro 2020 spot by firing in 3 goals vs Lithuania last night with the second goal being a work of art. Ronaldo now has 98 international goals to his name. Another 12 and he will overtake record holder Ali Daei, who has 109 goals in 149 games for Iran.
Firing at the highest level for both club and country whilst achieving so much success with almost every team has played for has earned him many die hard fans from around the world. Ronaldo is known to go out of his way for his fans and the gesture was on display last night as well.
Shortly after Cristiano Ronaldo completed his hattrick in the 65th minute, a fan wearing Ronaldo’s Juventus shirt ran onto the pitch. He evaded security to meet his idol before a steward finally caught up to him.
Cristiano Ronaldo however, instructed the security to allow the fan to meet him before he took a quick selfie with him. The pair then hugged after taking the picture while the stadium erupted in cheers.
