Nathan Deal’s wife: Who is Sandra Deal?

Sandra Deal, the wife of Georgia’s 82nd governor, Nathan Deal, served as the state’s first lady from 2011 until 2019. She had previously taught language arts in public schools and was an advocate for education. Sandra Deal was born in 1942 in Gainesville, Georgia. Her parents were both teachers.

She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in primary education from Georgia College & University in Milledgeville, Georgia, in 1963 and 1968, respectively.

Deal met her husband on a blind date when they were both in college. Their four children and six grandchildren were born after their marriage in 1966.

As Georgia’s first lady, she is well recognized for encouraging literacy and education in the state, for which she received the 2016 “Georgian of the Year” award from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters.
