Ghana’s ‘Year of Return’ was very successful. It really boosted our tourism industry.

Taking a cue from its success, Nigeria has also launched ‘Door of Return’ an initiative to battle Ghana’s ‘Year of Return’.

A flyer we came across on social media details everything the Door of Return represents.

    1. Your blog is divisive. I am a foundational black American, age 43. I can tell you Nigerians been in my life for 40 years. NIGERIANS helped us learn our Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo long before Ghana announced Year of Return. They also was teaching us about other countries. They helped us build Yoruba Land in the USA and much more. In 2017, Oonie of Ghana and the Ashantehene united as brothers. So don’t let your mouth and actions cause division. Instead clap that Ghana, Cameroon, Senegal has followed your lead to have their own initiative in 2020. Those of us who DNA tested to find our roots and reconnect appreciate every countries efforts to help make us our ancestors wildest dreams.

      1. LOL. Your bullshit FBA is the divisive part here. Either you’re part of us, or you’re American. Can’t have it both ways. Have your #FBA organisations shit on Nigerians and Ghanaians, and come here telling us what our ancestors wanted. Pick one.

        1. What the hell? As a black American I hate hearing those from the Native land talk like this. It is my dream to visit. I’m hopeful that the majority are welcoming. It literally isn’t our fault that our ancestors were stolen from the land.

    2. they should had wrote 3.5 million Nigerians/Africans were shipped from Nigeria, not Slaves, unless that what they see the ones who was captured and sold as.

  1. Haha
    You are truly daft..
    Naija copy Ghana..

NIGERIANS organized the 1ST AFRICAN return festival in 1977
    Google FESTAC 77″

Your undertones In your writing is very apparent. Unprofessional And inaccurate

  2. Why are you silly Africans making this a competition? How about you ban together and open all the doors in Africa for return. We black Americans don’t give a shit who did it first, just be kind and work together. What’s so hard about that?

  3. I’m an American of West African decent with parents from Jamaica. It’s more important for West Africans to try and and work together on these homecoming initiatives instead of being so competitive for our tourist dollars.

  4. I don’t care……..the more the merrier!!!!! Great that Mama Africa is opening her doors to us!!!! We love all of y’all!!!!

  5. *DISCLAIMER*

*BEWARE OF UNAUTHORISED DOOR OF RETURN-NIGERIA 2020*

The attention of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has been drawn to a purported *Door of Return 2020 program in Nigeria* by some agents

It must be stated categorically here that the said program does not have the consent of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, the Lagos State Government or Federal Government of Nigeria.

The Nigerian Diaspora Commission, the Lagos State Government, the African Door of Return Experience and the African Renaissance Foundation have been organizing the Door of Return in Badagry, Lagos for the past three years since 2017.

For the avoidance of doubt, the 2019 edition took place in October 15th to 20th 2019, and the program was held in Badagry, Lagos with the theme: “A *PILGRIMAGE TO THE MOTHERLAND,THE THIRD COMING* ” with participants from across the globe.

The policy document in circulation is not from the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission @nidcom_gov, . Neither the Commission nor any person acting on behalf of NIDCOM is responsible for the circulation.

The suspicious people behind it are playing on the minds of tourists, based on the recent successful Afronation program in Ghana this December
While we commend Ghana for having been reaching out to the historic African Diaspora in the last thirteen years and has issued citizenship to over 100 Americans, there is no competition or comparison whatsoever.

Nigeria and other African countries will continue to encourage and support each other and do all we can to motivate Africans in Diaspora, who are now more determined, to reconnect with Africa , the motherland.

We request all not to fall for pranks of fraudsters such as in the said advert

The Nidcom logo and other logos do not have the consent of the owners. Such an event cannot take place without the involvement of the State and Federal Governments of Nigeria.

We advise the public to visit our website, https://t.co/ZsGL1taRtA I r follow our twitter page @nidcom_gov for any information.

  6. This is the reason why we can’t get ahead. We always have to be in competition. So what they may have “copied.” I look at it like this. Ghanaians helped to inspire Nigerians and possibly other African countries on ways to boost or help their economy. There is enough people in the world to spread the wealth around. The words in this article only cause much more decisiveness. We need less of that and more unity.

  7. We are all brothers and sisters please let’s not fight but I do think that was a miss use of words we should not use the word copy and maybe we should use the word expanding the door because being born in America I would love to visit all that I can in Africa

  8. I still believe more slaves came from Nigeria and the surrounding regions than they from Ghana . Tho Ghana was the entry point . There were particular tribes and physic which the slave traders were looking for and most were beyond Ghana .

  10. It would be better to compliment both countries rather than pit them against each other. Don’t fall for European tactics (again).

  12. I’m a Black American and I always wondered where my Ancestors came from. So I took Two DNA test both test Confirmed that I’m majority Nigerian Can any Nigerian give me information about the tribes that’s in Nigeria and what’s their beliefs customs and language. I can google but I wanna know from someone who is from there

  13. Is there anything wrong with copying a good inititive? this is how you divide brethren – dont they share many similarities and history? They are both countries to be reckoned with in sub -sahara,both belong to same economic union. If you cant bring them together do not seperate them by your writings.

  14. I’m a Nigerian,I really think Ghanaians are self absorbed, egomaniacs, low thinking, pride wanting set of black Africans you can ever find in this planet. They are in competition for every little meaningless thing.Nothing is taken for granted in that country, even the number of mice in Nigeria to the number of mice in Ghana is a fierce competition to them.It is so disgusting to read an article as poor as this. This demonstrate the Ghana’s mentality towards Nigeria but for us Nigerians, we care less of this sibling rivalry. Somebody big pass u..accept tam.
