Photos as One person was shot dead at NDC meeting in Kumasi


3news.com reports that One person has been shot dead and another in a critical condition at a gathering of the National Democratic Congress at its regional headquarters in the Ashanti region.

According to an eyewitness, a man believe to be a member of the vigilante group, the Hawks, shot the deceased in the chest at close range, at least three times.

The other was shot in the thigh and at the back.

General Secretary of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia who was in the meeting confirmed one of the two persons who sustained the gunshot wounds has died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

He explained they were in a meeting with the Ashanti Regional executives of the party when suddenly some people rushed to the room claiming some persons have entered the premises carrying guns.

“We then heard gunshots and later got to know two people have been hit,” he told Neat FM.

The Police were immediately called in while the two persons were rushed to hospital for medical attention, he said.

“One person is dead and the other is receiving treatment,” Mr. Asiedu Nketia said, adding “Up till now, we have not identified the person who fired the shot but we have informed the police and they are investigating”.

He said witnesses told him the assailants entered the premises of the party office riding on motorbikes.

Meanwhile, the party has issued a statement expressing regrets over the matter that has caused Police to take over the regional headquarters of the party.

The statement signed by the Regional Secretary of the party Kwame Zu said the one on admission “is in a critical condition”.

“We request the police to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter and bring the perpetrators to book,” the statement added
