President Akufo-Addo, has called on Ghanaians to keep the country peaceful.

This comes after Ghana’s recent rating in the 2021 Global Peace Index, which saw the country place first in West Africa, second in Africa, and 38th overall. Mauritius, an East African country, is the only African country that has placed higher than Ghana.

The Global Peace Index (GPI) rates 163 autonomous governments and territories, accounting for nearly 99 percent of the world’s population, based on 23 qualitative and quantitative variables from reputable sources.

The index assesses global peace based on three primary themes: societal safety and security, the prevalence of local or international conflict, and the militarization of society.

According to the most recent edition of the GPI, overall levels of peace have somewhat deteriorated over the previous 10 years, with political and civil disturbance continuing to rise around the world. It also looked at trends in risk and safety perceptions prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, using data from the Lloyd’s Register Foundation World Risk Poll.

The 2021 GPI garnered a lot of national and international press attention, and it was the focus of a lot of launch events all over the world.
