The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) on Thursday, issued an arrest warrant for Samual Adam Mahama, a brother of former President John Mahama, for his alleged involvement in the Airbus bribery scandal.
The arrest warrant was also issued for four other individuals who per the reports were neck-deep in the influencing of the illegal purchase of two aircraft.
Mr Samuel Adam Mahama, a UK national, is being sought for allegedly accepting a bribe to influence a public officer and acting in collaboration with a public officer for the public officer’s private gain.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) through its communicators have debunked the perception that Mahama was involved in the scandal although the ‘Government Official 1’ tag has been placed on.
Per the investigation conducted, there was a ‘Government Official 1’ who received a bribe to allow for the purchase of the aircraft. According to many and especially the governing party NPP, the scandal happened under former President Mahama and he should be the one described as ‘Government Official 1.’
Consequentially, the Deputy Communications Minister, Pius Enam Hadzide, in an interview on the Prime Morning Show on Joy Prime TV said:
“I have listened to a lot of narratives that seek to suggest that he [Mahama] is ‘Government official 1’. If he’s not, why is he silent?”
He added that the NDC and the former president should not run away from the scandal but rather face it and speak purposely to it.
“Why are they running away from the investigation? This story broke long ago and I find Mr. John Dramani Mahama’s prolonged silence on this matter rather insulting to the integrity and intelligence of Ghanaians who entrusted in him the machinery of state,” he said.
