President Nana Addo has reacted to the death of Burundi’s President, Pierre Nkuranziza in a condolence post on Twitter.

President Nana Addo shared the pain with the people of Burundi following the demise of their president, Pierre Nkuranziza.

Burundi’s President Pierre Nkurunziza, aged 55, died after suffering a cardiac arrest, the government says.

He was admitted to hospital on Saturday after feeling unwell, his condition improved but on Monday he had a cardiac arrest and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, officials say.

After 15 years in power, Mr Nkurunziza was due to step down in August.

In 2015, the announcement that he would run for a third term plunged the country into chaos.

Reacting to the death of the African legend, President Nana Addo wrote:

“The Ghanaian people and I extend our deepest condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Burundi, on the sad news of the death of their President, His Excellency Pierre Nkurunziza. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
