R. Ajay Gnanamuthu is a Tamil-focused Indian film director and screenwriter who was born on September 15, 1988. He began his career working as A. R. Murugadoss’ assistant on the sets of Thuppakki and 7aum Arivu. Ajay made his directing debut in 2015 with the critically and commercially successful horror-thriller Demonte Colony. It was deemed to be a box office smash. Imaikkaa Nodigal, his second film, became a smash hit.
Ajay attended St. John’s High School and St. Patrick’s Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School to finish his education before enrolling at Loyola College. He loves making short films while attending college and studying in the visual communications department. At the same time, he finished a Digital Filmmaking Diploma at the SAE Institute in Chennai.
In 2010, Ajay was chosen to compete in the first season of the short film competition Naalaya Iyakunar, where he placed among the finalists. He later became an assistant director for director A. R. Murugadoss, working on movies including Thuppakki and 7aum Arivu (2011). (2012).
