Rethabile Early Life and Education
She was born and raised at Protea Glen in Soweto to the renowned musician Winnie Khumalo. She has a half brother called Thando Thobela from her mother’s relationship with former boxing champion Dingaan ‘Rose of Soweto’ Thobela.
Rethabile Career
Although her mother was a renowned musician, Rethabile did not ride on her mother’s success but rather put in the work to be where she is today.
She began singing at a very young age and was a back singer at her mother’s shows for a number of years. She participated in the SA’s Idols competition in the eighth and ninth seasons but was unsuccessful.
Rethabile worked as a show girl at Montecasino’s Cantare after finishing high school in a show called Heels and Feathers.
DJ Tira signed her to Afrotainment in 2018 after she had recorded her first song, Nomathemba Nomathe, which translates to ‘mother of hope.’
It all began when her mother’s friend Zodwa Wabantu, invited them to a party at a pop club in Soweto where big names such DJ Tira and his wife, Gugu Khathi were in attendance.
That same day, Rethabile ended up performing Pretty Disaster by Moneoa.
Weeks later, She was in a studio recording her first song, Nomathemba Nomathe.
On her birthday, DJ Tira announced the signing of young Rethabile to Afrotaiment.
