In 1992, Sarah Palin was chosen to serve on the Wasilla city council. In 1996, she was appointed mayor of the city. She was appointed to chair the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission after her unsuccessful 2003 bid for lieutenant governor. She responded by ensuring the efficiency and safety of the state’s oil and gas fields.

 

Sarah was voted Alaska’s first female governor in 2006 when she was 42 years old, making her the youngest person to hold the office. She resigned in 2009 as a result of the high legal costs Palin and the state of Alaska incurred fighting ethics investigations.
