WWE hosted its 35th annual SummerSlam professional wrestling live event in 2022. It was only open to wrestlers from the WWE’s Raw and SmackDown brands.
The event was televised on pay-per-view (PPV) around the world, as well as livestreamed on Peacock in the United States and the WWE Network internationally. It was the first SummerSlam not held in August, and it took place on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
The competition had eight matches. In the main event, Roman Reigns retained the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship by defeating Brock Lesnar in a Last Man Standing battle. Pat McAfee defeated Happy Corbin, Logan Paul defeated The Miz, The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso) defeated The Street Profits (Angel Dawkins and Montez Ford) to retain the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship, and Bianca Belair defeated Becky Lynch to retain the Raw Women’s Championship in the opening match. Bayley, Dakota Kai (who had been released from her WWE contract in April), Iyo Sky (previously known as Io Shirai), and Edge all made appearances during the event.
