Bolton is where he was born and raised. At the University of Salford, he majored in media performance and began working as a stand-up comedian on the side, winning the North West Comedian of the Year award.
Kay was nominated for a Perrier Award the following year after his performance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
He attended Mount Saint Joseph School and graduated with a GCSE in art. His father, Michael John Kay, was a well-known engineer who died just before Peter began his career.
His mother, Margaret Deirdre O’Neill, is an Irish Catholic who grew up in Coalisland, County Tyrone, and Peter was raised in her faith. He is his parent’s only child.
