She became the first American to do so since 1982 when she was named the 2012 ITF Junior World Champion after finishing the year atop the girls’ rankings. She triumphed in both the singles and doubles competitions at the junior Australian Open that year, as well as three of the four doubles titles at the junior grand slams.
Announcing her pregnancy on social media, Townsend did so on October 14, 2020. In the year 2021, on March 14, she gave birth to a son named Adyn Aubrey.
