So I believed once more after I auditioned that I wanted one factor secure — I wanted a security. And to me, discovering a band that had one factor established is what I believed I wanted. Happily, I didn’t get it. Points would have been loads completely totally different for me if I’d have nonetheless been in SEPULTURA.”

Pressed about whether or not or not he would have favored to have joined SEPULTURA if TESTAMENT had ended totally, Chuck talked about: “In a method, nonetheless making an attempt once more now, I have no idea. I suggest, every band has their hardships and up and downs, so I have no idea if I’d have gotten into the band after which we’d have hit a stone wall and had hardships there. I almost certainly wouldn’t have been inside the band. I almost certainly would have left the band. And who’s conscious of what I’d have achieved.”

Billy beforehand talked about his SEPULTURA audition in a 2016 interview with Eonmusic. On the time, he talked about: “Yeah, spherical that time was correct sooner than [TESTAMENT made] the ‘Demonic’ file, so we had accomplished our Atlantic [Records] contract, and we had been in search of a model new deal. We didn’t even have a deal however, and on the ultimate minute, I merely talked about, ‘You understand what? Maybe I ought to aim to find a band that’s robust, that’s going to keep up touring and proceed on,’ and at the moment, SEPULTURA was taking auditions, and I imagine it was on the end [of the audition process] that I decided, ‘Screw it, I’ll do it.’ I imagine I did three songs; I did ‘Refuse/Resist’, I did ‘Territory’, and I wrote my mannequin of ‘Choke’, and gave it to them. Nonetheless by the purpose I had delivered, they’d already made their selection for [the appointment of new singer] Derrick [Green], which in the long term, was almost certainly the best way through which all of it should have labored out.”

Requested if it might have been an odd feeling to be performing with a model new bunch of males after having fun with with the an identical band for a lot of of his occupation, Chuck talked about: “It might have been, yeah. I have no idea if I was truly prepared, and if they may have talked about, ‘Okay, you’re in,’ I’d have talked about, ‘Properly, let me take into accounts that!’ I have no idea what I’d have achieved. I merely did it on the spur of the second, like, ‘Fuck it! What have I obtained to lose?!’”

We didn’t want anyone to sing ‘Roots [Bloody Roots]’ or ‘Refuse/Resist’, because of we didn’t want a clone. We wanted anybody to ship new ideas, to ship SEPULTURA to a definite path, to a definite diploma. And Chuck Billy, he did… He used further of the guttural [vocal style on his audition tape]. And it actually works. On account of, not too way back, we did a ‘Metallic Allegiance’ jam at NAMM in Los Angeles, and we carried out some SEPULTURA stuff with Chuck Billy singing, and it was good, man — it was good. So he did an unbelievable job. Nonetheless, you understand, he’s Chuck Billy; he’s TESTAMENT. We wanted anybody new.”
