Gabbard was born in 1981, and she spent her childhood in the state of Hawaii.
At the age of 21, she became the youngest person in the state’s history to be elected to a public office when she won the election for a seat in the state House of Representatives in the year 2002. Her time in the House of Representatives ended in 2004.

From 2003 until 2020, Gabbard served in the Hawaii Army National Guard as a member of the unit.

In the year 2020, she was transferred to an Amy Reserve unit that was located in the state of California. She has served two tours of service in the Middle East after being assigned there. Her tour of duty in Iraq as a member of the field medical unit specialist staff began in 2005.

During her second deployment, she served as a team leader for various security operations and assisted in the training of the Kuwait National Guard.

In the time in between his two years of duty, Gabbard attended the Alabama Military Academy’s Accelerated Officer Candidate School and Hawaii Pacific University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.

In addition, she held the position of legislative assistant to Senator Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii).
