Valley View University Basic School located in Oyibi Accra has issued a letter to parents that they will gradually start withdrawing the teaching of Ga Language.

According to the letter, their reason for this is because of the ‘lack’ of ‘qualified Ga teachers’ to teach the subject.

“We wish to inform you that the management of the Basic School is gradually phasing out GA as a Ghanaian Language starting from the 2021 academic year. This is due to the difficulty in getting qualified teacher to teach this subject”, part of the statement reads.

They’re hence left with no option than maintain only Twi language for pupils for GRADE 1-3.

However, Ga and Twi options would be maintained for pupils from Basic four to Nine.

“This unfortunate decision will affect the current pupils from Basic one to three only. These classes will offer only Twi as a Ghanaian Language in the school. The school will continue to offer the Twi/Ga option from Basic four to Basic nine”, the statement reads in conclusion.
