What did Jack Charlton say to Billy Bingham?

In a newspaper article, the late Northern Ireland gaffer Bingham claimed that his Republic counterpart was out of order.

When they were both in their 20s, Bingham recalls the pair attending an FA course in Lilleshall with Allen Wade.

According to Bingham, Charlton “pulled him up in the middle of a session and indicated that the viewpoint the FA’s Director of Coaching had just espoused was erroneous.”

‘Extremely strong-minded, a little dogmatic but a gigantic softie behind it all,’ Bingham observed of Charlton, ‘which is precisely why he sometimes finds criticism so hard to take.’

“When Jack allows himself to become engaged in such arguments, it takes away from what he is doing — and what he is doing very well,” Bingham concluded.
