What happened to the real Cleopatra?

Cleopatra was Born in 70 or 69 B.C. She was a daughter of Ptolemy XII (Auletes), a descendant of Ptolemy I Soter, one of Alexander The Great’s generals and the founder of the Ptolemaic line in Egypt. Her mother was believed to be Cleopatra V Tryphaena, who was the king’s wife and possibly his half-sister.

Soon after her sibling ascended to the throne, Ptolemy’s advisers then acted swiftly against Cleopatra. She was then forced as a result to flee Egypt for Syria in 49 B.C. She later raised an army of mercenaries and returned the following year to face her brother’s forces in a civil war at Pelusium, on Egypt’s eastern border. A war that was very bloody.

Rather than fall under Octavian’s domination, Cleopatra died by suicide on August 12, 30 B.C., possibly by means of an asp, a poisonous Egyptian serpent and symbol of divine royalty. Octavian later executed her son Caesarion, annexed Egypt into the Roman Empire, and used Cleopatra’s treasure to pay off his veterans. Cleopatra committed suicide
