Green began training camp up against Clayton Geathers, Matthias Farley, Andrew Williamson, Tyvis Powell, Earl Wolff, Ronald Martin, Lee Hightower, and Tyson Graham for a backup safety spot.

After rookie Malik Hooker suffered many injuries during OTAs and camp, defensive coordinator Ted Monachino organized a duel between Green and Farley for the starting strong safety position.

To begin the regular season, head coach Chuck Pagano appointed him the backup strong safety to Farley.

 

After Malik Hooker tore his ACL and MCL the previous week and was placed on injured reserve for the rest of the season, Green was named the starting free safety.

Green has four solo tackles in the Colts’ 34–23 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8 in his first start of the season.

Green had a season-high nine combined tackles in a 25–13 loss against the Denver Broncos on December 14, 2017. Green has 45 combined tackles (31 solo) and a pass deflection in 16 games and seven starts last season.

Green received a 73.9 overall rating from Pro Football Focus in 2017, putting him 60th among all qualified safeties.
