She was baptized on May 29 by Cosmo Gordon Lang, the Anglican Archbishop of York, in the palace’s private chapel.
Elizabeth, Alexandra, and Mary were given to her in honour of her mother, paternal great-grandmother, who had passed away six months before, and paternal grandmother, respectively.
Her father, King George VI, the second son of the King, served as her paternal grandfather King George V’s successor during his reign.
