In Ponce, Puerto Rico, Carlos Oppenheimer Sr. and Sandybel Oppenheimer became parents to Correa. Correa was born and reared in the Puerto Rican fishing village of Barrio Velázquez. The family had enough money to build a modest home despite their small salary.

Because Correa frequently played catch as a young boy in the alley near to his house, a neighbor advised enrolling him in a youth league’s parent-pitch division when he was five years old.
Correa’s father continued to coach him every day in their downtime after he was selected to play as a first baseman because of his exceptional hitting abilities. The 1998 hurricane Georges caused significant damage to the family’s house.
