Dame Olivia Newton-John (26 September 1948 – 8 August 2022) was a British-Australian singer, actor, and activist. She was a four-time Grammy Award winner whose career included two Billboard 200 number one albums, Have You Never Been Mellow (1974) and If You Love Me, Let Me Know (1974), along with five number one singles and ten songs that reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (1975).

 

The Recording Industry Association of America has certified 11 of her songs and 14 of her albums as gold, including two platinum singles (RIAA).

Newton-John is one of the best-selling musicians from the second part of the twentieth century to the present, with more than 100 million global record sales.

 

Her father was a native of Wales who was raised in a middle-class family. Her mother was born in Germany and emigrated to the United Kingdom with her family in 1933 to escape the Nazi regime.

 

Olivia’s maternal grandpa was Max Born, a German Jewish Nobel Prize-winning scientist; her maternal grandmother Hedwig was the daughter of German Jewish lawyer Victor Ehrenberg and his Lutheran wife, whose father was jurist Rudolf von Jhering, Olivia’s great-great-grandfather. Gustav Victor Rudolf Born, a pharmacologist, was her uncle.

She had a 73-year-old age. Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully on August 8, 2022, at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, according to a post on her official Facebook page.
