Although Chef Sarah Minnick is a native of Portland, Oregon, viewers will be surprised to learn that she never intended to become a chef. Interesting enough, Sarah got her start in the restaurant industry by opening a place with her sister and an ex-boyfriend. The eatery, called Lovely Hula Hands, was also in Portland, and while Sarah and her sister ran the front of the house, her ex managed the kitchen.

Unfortunately, the relationship did not last, and even though Sarah’s ex left the restaurant, she and her sister were determined to keep the business going and hired other chefs. She quickly realized, though, that running the front of the house wasn’t her true calling and that cooking was. As a result, Sarah started experimenting with various ingredients, and in addition to mastering the art of making a pizza, she also learned how to make gelato.

In the end, the chef opened Lovely’s Fifty Fifty in 2000 when she felt she was prepared and ready to move forward. Surprisingly, Sarah still lacked confidence in her ability to make pizza after opening her new establishment. As a result, she made the ice cream and appetizers, and a friend of hers made the pizzas. Sarah was compelled to take on the duty after this friend moved out, and she surprisingly enjoyed it!

Sarah mentioned that although Lovely’s Fifty Fifty is well known for its ice cream and pizza, everything she serves—from the ice cream to the pizza dough—is made on-site. She also wanted to sprinkle a little Oregon on each and every pizza she made. Sarah tops her pizzas with seasonal fruits and flowers that can only be found in Oregon, in addition to using fresh vegetables and ingredients. The menu at Lovely’s Fifty Fifty changes frequently, but her pizzas are fairly unique.

Chef Sarah Minnick has received praise for her amazing work from all over the world and has been highlighted in a number of prestigious publications. In fact, Lovely’s Fifty Fifty has long been a favourite of renowned Portland food critic Karen Brooks. Additionally, Sarah’s popularity increased as a result of the fact that she only uses the best ingredients and sources them all locally for her restaurant.

Sarah currently resides in Portland, Oregon, where she owns and operates her renowned restaurant.
