He is best recognized for playing Dick Stensland in Curtis Hanson’s L.A. Confidential and Franklin Ford in the drama The Paper Chase.

He additionally portrayed Hal Sanders on Heroes and Jack Fisk on Battlestar Galactica. Beckel played the part of Frank, a diner patron, in the movie The Astronaut Farmer.

In Atlas Shrugged, Beckel portrays oil tycoon Ellis Wyatt (2011).

He plays Nathan Cardiff, the owner of the fictional corporation “Cardiff Electric,” in the AMC television series Halt & Catch Fire.

 

Bob Beckel, a late political commentator, and TV personality was his younger brother.
