Venus Williams and Serena Williams’ father, Richard Dove Williams, Jr., was a former American tennis coach and was born on February 14, 1942. After watching Virginia Ruzici play on television, Williams decided his future daughters would become tennis players and began taking lessons from a man known as “Old Whiskey.” Williams claimed that when Venus and Serena were four and a half years old, he began teaching them tennis using an 85-page plan and took them to play on public courts. Later, Williams remarked that he believed he had taken them too young and that age six would have been more appropriate. Williams took his girls out of a tennis academy in 1995 and started coaching them himself.
Where Is Richard Williams Now?
Williams currently resides in Atlanta, and has been in poor health for the past few years. The 80-year-old suffered two strokes in 2016 and is under his son Chavoita LeSane’s care.
