Twitter was founded in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams as a microblogging platform. The San Francisco-based company was listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in 2013 under the ticker TWTR. Twitter announced on November 29, 2021, that co-founder Jack Dorsey has decided to step down as CEO. Dorsey was succeeded by Parag Agrawal, who was serving as CTO at the time. In April 2022, Agrawal faced a litmus test when Tesla (TSLA) co-founder and Twitter shareholder Elon Musk disclosed a 9% stake in the company and launched an unsolicited bid to buy Twitter for $54.20 per share in cash.
Musk has also stated his desire to take the company private. The parties agreed to a deal on April 25, 2022, after which Twitter would be delisted from the NYSE. However, less than three months later, Musk notified Twitter of his intention to terminate the acquisition agreement, citing, among other things, alleged breaches of the information-sharing agreement and “materially inaccurate representations.” Twitter has responded by filing a lawsuit against Musk. According to the company, the trial will take place in October 2022.
