When it appeared like McIntyre would ultimately defeat Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa made his professional wrestling debut by yanking the referee out of the ring.
After the match, Tyson Fury entered the ring to sing with McIntyre and Principality Stadium after stopping Austin Theory from cashing in for Money in the Bank. The stadium was primarily booing at the time and was highly agitated, but they eventually started singing “American Pie.”
The partisan crowd was firmly in support of the hometown hero, so WWE showed a “Broken Dreams” video package before the bout began. To the tune of “Seven Nation Army” by the White Stripes, the crowd vociferously screamed “Oh Drew McIntyre!”
WWE should have prioritized creating historical moments at Clash at the Castle for a variety of reasons. The antecedent of Clash at the Castle was WWE SummerSlam 1992, where the British Bulldog defeated Brett Hart to win the Intercontinental Championship in front of his home nation at Wembley Stadium in the United Kingdom. The stage was set for WWE to repeat a doubly historic victory at Principality Stadium thanks to the large attendance: a rare world title change in the United Kingdom and the end of Roman Reigns’ two-year reign.
It turns out that at Clash at the Castle, WWE just repeated history that had already occurred for more than 700 days. Clash at the Castle appeared to be more of a house show due to its entirely anticipated outcomes, as all of the favorites won.
