At the UCI Road World Championships, professional cyclists compete in the Elite Men’s Road Race each year. The winner is regarded as the World Cycling Champion and is given the opportunity to wear the Rainbow Jersey during road races or stage competitions for a whole year (or World Road Cycling Champion). The contest consisted of a single road race with a “mass start,” with the winner crossing the line first after finishing the full distance.

In the road race, cyclists organized by national cycling teams compete rather than commercially funded or trade teams, which are the standard in professional cycling.

The first professional World Cycling Championship was won by Italian Alfredo Binda in 1927 in the German Nürburgring. Nowadays, the race usually takes place near the end of the European racing season, following the Vuelta an Espaa. The race might be held on a steep route that favours all-around or climbing specialists or on a relatively flat circuit that favours sprinters in cycling.

Why are bike shorts so tight?

One of the reasons cycling shorts are so tight is for aerodynamics. Naturally, the closer something is to your body, the less air resistance there will be, allowing you to ride farther, faster, and with less effort.
