The public has always referred to actor and comedian Jamie Foxx simply as Jamie. In contrast to his theatrical name, Eric Marlon Bishop was not his true name; in reality, that was his genuine name.

To be really honest, his stage name fits him. Even Jamie Foxx’s daughter Corinne has continued her famous father’s professional use of the Foxx surname. However, given how similar the two are, this shouldn’t be a surprise.

Why did Jamie Foxx change his name?

In the instance of Foxx, he chose a first name that he believed he could live with, but that would also make it easier for him to battle against any biases that could be held against him. Regarding the surname, there is yet another tale to tell there.

Foxx was described in The Independent as claiming that he choose his surname as a way to pay respect to Redd Foxx, the lead comic on the television show “Sanford and Son.” And despite the fact that he may have believed, early on in his career, that he had some large shoes to fill, it turned out that Foxx was able to carve out a unique identity for himself.
