Prince Rogers Nelson, better known by his stage name Prince, was an American singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer. He is widely recognized as one of the best artists of his period, having received several honors and nominations.

Prince was known for his flamboyant, androgynous appearance; his wide vocal range, which featured a high-pitched falsetto; and his skill as a multi-instrumentalist, frequently preferring to play all or most of the instruments on his records.

Prince also produced his own records, establishing the Minneapolis sound, and his songs included funk, R&B, rock, new wave, soul, synth-pop, pop, jazz, and hip hop, among other styles.

Why Did Prince Change His Name?

Prince changed his identity due to a long-running legal dispute with Warner Bros. With the exception of 1983, Prince was very productive during his career, releasing an album every year from his 1978 debut “For You” until 1993. Prince reverted to his original name in 2000 after signing with Arista Records in 1998.
