Jamie was adopted by John and his wife Evelyn when he was a baby since his original father, Garrett Randall, had killed his mother and was sentenced to prison. John finally told Jamie about his parentage in the third season.
The man begins pleading with Jamie when he eventually runs into his biological father to help the Dutton family. Jamie moves in with Garrett and buys his own house in the fourth season to put an end to his association with the Duttons.
John was irritated by Jamie’s behaviour, which causes a wedge between the father and son. Garrett also totally separates Jamie and John in this area. It makes sense that Jamie was the first to stop speaking to his family. On paper, Jamie still appears to be a Dutton relative, and John hasn’t made a point of severing his relationship with him.
