Abul Maal Abdul Muhith was born on January 25, 1934, in Sylhet, Assam Province, British India. He worked as a writer, civil servant, secretary, diplomat, politician, and economist.

Abdul Muhith was honoured for his service as Finance Minister of Bangladesh from January 2009 to December 2018.

Muhith was known for excelling in his matriculation exam from Sylhet Government Pilot High School in 1949, as well as his Intermediate examination from Sylhet MC College in 1951.

Despite this, from 1960 to 1969, the economist served as general secretary of the Pakistan Civil Service Association’s central committee.

Meanwhile, Abdul Muhith passed away on April 30, 2022, at the age of 88, in United Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

His funeral was held in the early hours of the morning at Gulshan Azad Mosque in Dhaka, and he was buried in Sylhet.

In addition, at noon, his body will be transported to the Central Shaheed Minar to allow family and loved ones to pay their ultimate respects to the late Bangladesh economist.

Shahar Banu, his mother, was a key figure in the Bengali language struggle.
