Alcohol is second biggest cause of Cancer after Tobacco – VALD warn Ghanaians

Humans all over the world are marking world Cancer da to raise awareness on the deadly infection and The Vision For Alternative Development VALD has taken advantage of it to warn Ghanaians to minimize their intake of alcohol.

According to the organization, science has proven that consumption is a strong cause of cancer and only behind Tobacco.

“After tobacco, alcohol is the second biggest cause of cancer – long before other risk factors such as infections, physical inactivity, or sunlight,” a section of the statement said. Alcohol causes 10.3 million cancer disability-adjusted life years lost, representing 4.2% of all cancer disability-adjusted life years lost worldwide in 2016”. A statement stated

The same source indicated that unlike Other sides of the body where Tobacco is the most dangerous cause, Alcohol is the biggest cause when it comes to the breast.

They call on government to do whatever it will take them to educate the public and make cancer awareness a priority to prevent further damages.

“For breast cancer globally, alcohol is the single biggest risk factor. In total, alcohol-related cancer causes 650,000 deaths every year, We call on our government to make cancer prevention a priority by implementing high-impact alcohol policy solutions, such as alcohol taxation.”
