Former kickboxer turned professional mixed martial artist Alexsandro Pereira from Brazil currently competes in the Middleweight category of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
When he was 12 years old, Pereira who grew up in a favela left middle school to start working at a tire shop. He started drinking as a result of his coworkers’ influence, which sparked the onset of alcoholism. He started learning kickboxing in 2009 in an effort to kick his addiction.
He has competed in events such as SUPERKOMBAT Fighting Championship and It’s Showtime, and in kickboxing, he has held the middleweight and light heavyweight titles for Glory. He is currently ranked fourth among middleweights in the UFC as of September 5, 2022. Pereira held the top spot in the middleweight and light-heavyweight divisions of kickboxing as of February 2021.
He won the Glory 14: Zagreb – Middleweight Contender Tournament on March 8, 2014, in Zagreb, Croatia, by beating Dustin Jacoby by first-round knockout in the quarterfinals and Sahak Parparyan by majority decision.
After converting from kickboxing, Pereira made his professional mixed martial arts debut in 2015, but he was defeated by submission. After recording two victories in a row, Pereira announced he had signed a contract to face Diego Henrique da Silva on August 10 in the Brazilian Contender Series. However, Pereira was not allowed to compete by Glory, so the fight was never held.
Pereira made his professional debut against Thomas Powell on November 20, 2020, following rumours that he had inked a contract with Legacy Fighting Alliance on October 22, 2020. He was eliminated from the bout in the first round.
