An American-Canadian chess player and analyst, YouTuber, and Twitch broadcaster, Alexandra Botez was born in 1995.

Botez’s parents were Romanian immigrants. She was born in Dallas, Texas, but despite being Canadian, she was raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. Botez’s father introduced her to chess and started teaching her the game when she was six years old.

She was a five-time Canadian National Girls Champion and won the U.S. Girls Nationals at the age of 15. After reaching her highest FIDE Elo rating of 2092 in March 2016, she was awarded the title of Ladies FIDE Master by the International Chess Federation.

Botez won the 2004 Canadian junior national championship at the age of eight. She joined the National Canadian Team in 2010 and went on to win four more youth national titles in Canada.

At the age of fifteen, Botez returned to the country and won the U.S. Girls Nationals. Botez fulfilled the qualifications to earn the title of Women FIDE Master in 2013.

In 2016, while still a Stanford University student, Botez began online chess video streaming. The majority of the spectators, she claimed, were more focused on her during her maiden webcast than they were on the game.

She now shares management of the BotezLive Twitch and YouTube channels, which have a combined following of more than 2,200,000, with her younger sister Andrea Botez.
