A few years before she was born, her parents left Russia for the United States in an effort to give their daughter better possibilities.
Parents of Maria Both of them had careers in banking and finance, but neither had grown up playing tennis competitively.
When Anisimova was five years old, she started playing tennis. She credits her sister Maria with motivating her to start playing tennis, saying, “When I was tiny, she started playing tennis.”
She played, and I had always envied her ability to do so. My parents and I got connected with it in that way.
