Verkhoglyad was deployed to Donbas as a platoon leader with the 72nd Mechanized Brigade, one of Ukraine’s best army units two weeks after their graduation.
January 2017, was of his toughest days in service when Verkhoglyad took part in one of the most difficult battles for Avdiyivka, the Ukrainian army moved to the south of the city which caused the death of many soldiers.
The brigade command promoted Andriy putting him in command of a company of over 100 fighters after the battle because of his bravery.
