At the age of 74, Anita Pointer passed away from cancer at her Los Angeles home on December 31, 2022. Roger Neal, her publicist, said she was surrounded by family at her Beverly Hills residence. In 1973, when Anita’s song “Yes We Can Can” peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, she and her sisters gained notoriety.

By becoming the first black female group to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in 1974 thanks to the success of their song “Fairytale” on the country music charts, the group was made possible thanks to Pointer’s songwriting skills. The group’s first Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group and a Grammy Nomination for Best Country Song were both given to them in 1975 for “Fairytale.”

Anita Pointer, an American singer-songwriter and founding member of the Pointer Sisters, was married to David Harper for the first time.

At the age of 17, Anita married David Harper in December 1965. Their daughter Rashawn Pointer was born in 1966, and the following year, the couple filed for divorce.
