In 1973, when Anita’s song “Yes We Can Can” peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, she and her sisters gained notoriety.
By becoming the first black female group to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in 1974 thanks to the success of their song “Fairytale” on the country music charts, the group was made possible thanks to Pointer’s songwriting skills. The group’s first Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group and a Grammy Nomination for Best Country Song were both given to them in 1975 for “Fairytale.”
