The Boston Bruins, especially Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron, were favourites of Beauvillier, a Quebec native who spent his whole life there. Beauvillier didn’t know much English before relocating to Long Island to play for the Islanders because he had grown up speaking French.
Beauvillier played three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) for the Shawinigan Cataractes. Following an outstanding 2014–15 campaign, he was selected to play in the 2015 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game and was named to the Second All-Star Team of the QMJHL for the 2014–15 season. In the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, the New York Islanders picked Beauvillier with the 28th overall pick. After the Cataractes, Beauvillier’s previous team lost to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in Game 5 of the 2016 President’s Cup Final, he joined the Islanders organization.
