Along with his mother, Kiedis grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he also matured as a person. Kiedis moved to Hollywood with his family at the age of twelve so that he could live with his father.
Kiedis completed his official schooling at Fairfax High School in Hollywood, where he made friends with the bandmates of Anthym, Flea and Hillel Slovak. Kiedis started studying academics at UCLA but quit in his second year to concentrate on his music career.
