Neil deGrasse Tyson is an American astronomer, planetary scientist, author, and science communicator who was born on October 5, 1958. Among other schools, he attended Harvard University, the University of Texas at Austin, and Columbia University.
Tyson worked as a postdoctoral research associate at Princeton University from 1991 until 1994. In 1994, he became a staff scientist at the Hayden Planetarium and a visiting research scientist and lecturer on the Princeton faculty.
He became the planetarium’s director in 1996 and managed a $210 million rebuilding project that was finished in 2000. He has been the director of the Hayden Planetarium in New York City’s Rose Center for Earth and Space since 1996.
