The Soham Murders, which occurred in Soham, Cambridgeshire, England on August 4, 2002, involved the death of two young children. Holly Marie Wells and Jessica Aimee Chapman, two 10-year-old girls, were the victims. They were lured into the home of Ian Kevin Huntley, a local resident and school caretaker, who then killed the kids likely by asphyxiation and dumped their bodies in an irrigation ditch close to RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk. On August 17, 2002, the bodies of the girls were found.

On December 17, 2003, Huntley was found guilty of killing both girls and given two life sentences; the High Court later set a minimum penalty of 40 years. Huntley was intentionally given a false alibi by his girlfriend, Maxine Ann Carr, the girls’ teaching assistant. For collaborating with Huntley to tamper with the course of justice, she was given a three-and-a-half-year prison sentence.
