A house exploded in Arlington, Virginia, on Monday night, not long after the Arlington County Police Department shared on social media that a suspect had set off a flare gun within the home.
Police were at the 800 block of North Burlington Street, actively investigating a person who had fired a flare pistol from a property, according to the police department’s X post, which was made shortly after 8:15 p.m.

It has been advised that locals stay indoors until further information is available.
A lot of people on social media claimed to have heard a loud explosion at about 8:30 p.m. Later, the county police confirmed in a later post that the explosion occurred because the suspect fired several rounds inside the house while the cops were entering.
Arlington Fire & EMS informed the public on X that a significant police and fire response was expected, and that their units were actively addressing a “structure fire” at the same site.
“The suspect discharged several rounds inside the home as officers were attempting to execute a search warrant at the residence,” according to a statement from the Arlington County Police Department (ACPD). After that, there was an explosion at the house, which prompted more inquiries into what happened before and after the incident.
Rep Don Beyer (D-Va.) used social media to share his alertness about the emergency response to a large explosion that occurred in Arlington’s Bluemont neighborhood. “This is very, very scary, and my profound thanks go out to first responders working to secure the area and keep everyone safe,” he said, acknowledging the seriousness of the issue.
At approximately four hours after the first dispatch, at 8:25 p.m., an explosion took place at the residence at the end of N. Burlington Street, close to Fields Park, Key Elementary, and Arlington Fire Station No 2.
