Watts attended Texas A&M from 2014 to 2017, where he played collegiate football for head coach Kevin Sumlin. He started for the Aggies for four years and, as a freshman, was the team leader in interceptions. He played in 12 of the games he started in 2017, totaling 87 tackles, 10 for loss, 4 interceptions, 5 pass breakups, 2 fumble recoveries, and 2 blocked kicks. Watts was a third-team All-America and All-SEC selection.
The fourth-round pick acquired in the Marcus Peters trade was used by the Kansas City Chiefs to select Watts with the 124th overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft. He made his first professional sack in Week 4 against the Denver Broncos.
