On May 8, 1998, Ashleigh Megan Plumptre, a professional football player who plays centre-back for the Nigerian national team, was born in Leicester, England. Former England youth international Ashleigh Megan made her senior Nigeria debut in February 2022. She began playing football when she joined Asfordby Amateurs at the age of 4. She started playing at the Leicester City Centre of Excellence when she was eight years old, competing in the under-10 through under-15 levels for seven years. In 2013, she moved from Leicester to Birmingham City’s under-17 squad, where she got the chance to practice with the senior WSL 1 club.

To play college soccer at the University of Southern California, Plumptre relocated to the US in 2016. She played as a replacement midfielder for the USC Trojans in 17 games as a freshman, including every round of the NCAA postseason. Even though she was projected as a late first-round or early second-round choice in the 2020 NWSL College Draft, Plumptre decided to return to England in December 2019 and reteam with her local team Leicester City in the FA Women’s Championship.
