A public document by KNUST’s Public health school has proposed the Ban on smoking of shisha in Ghana to curb Coronavirus spread with recent increase in active cases recorded.
The document further called for a ban of the sale and importation of tobacco products including cigarettes during the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that COVID-19, which causes respiratory illness, could present aggravated symptoms and worsen outcomes due to the use of tobacco.
The document said: “Shisha use prevails among the youth, and involves sharing of the same mouth-piece which can be a route for SARS-Cov-2 transmission and other communicable diseases.”
